Inzolia is a Sicilian white wine variety, also grown in Tuscany under the name of Ansonica. There are only a handful of producers in Australia that use this variety.
For quite some time, the primary use for Inzolia was to create base wines for Marsala, a type of fortified wine.
However, with the decline in popularity of Marsala and other fortified wines, the Inzolia variety had to evolve or face potential oblivion. Fortunately, it found a new purpose.
Although Inzolia has only recently made its way to Australia with a few winemakers adopting it, thus far, it has not yet gained popularity in other wine-producing counties beyond Italy.
