Two bottles of fine wine from Glenwillow
Glenwillow Vineyard, a local family-owned vineyard from Yandoit Creek near Newstead, has picked up a major trophy for Best Shiraz of Show, as well as a gold medal for our 2006 Reserve shiraz at the recent Daylesford Wine Show.
There were over seventy entries in the shiraz class. The show dinner was held at the prestigious Lakehouse restaurant in Daylesford and our award-winnning Glenwillow Reserve shiraz was selected on the menu for the 100 or so guests including wine judges Steve Goodwin and Ralph Kyte-Powell. For our small, boutique vineyard, this was quite an achievement.
Our sparkling Cabernet Shiraz won a bronze medal at Daylesford together with our Italian variety - Nebbiolo d'Yandoit. Our Nebbiolo also picked up a bronze medal at the Australian & New Zealand Small Winemakers show in Stanthorpe.
Other recent success of Glenwillow wines included a gold medal for the 2005 Reserve shiraz at the Australian & New Zealand Small Winemakers Show last year. Also, Glenwillow wines overall were rated 4½ stars out of 5 by James Halliday, in his 2008 Australian Wine Companion. This rating was up there with the best of some of Bendigo's (and Australia's) premium wineries. Halliday rated our 2005 Glenwillow Reserve Shiraz 94/100 – an outstanding result in the category of “wines of the highest quality, usually with a distinguished pedigree”.
Our vineyard is located on the southern edge of the Bendigo region which gives our wines cool-climate characters with elegant styles and a superb long finish. We don't have a cellar door (mail order or in-person only) and promote ourselves as a small, undiscovered winery in the Yandoit Valley of Central Victoria.
