I have been a supporter of Naked Wines for several years.
More than a supporter - I am a Naked Angel.
For those who don’t know Naked Wines is a distribution company which supports new and budding winemakers by financing them upfront to make wine. The wine is then marketed exclusively to a growing group of Angels - winelovers who are dedicated to getting great wine at fair prices to producers outside the industrial supply chain to the big supermarkets.
There are about 40 winemakers for Naked spread throughout Australia and a couple from New Zealand. Sometimes there are some wines made overseas by Aussie winemakers. For example Jen Pfeiffer made some wine in Portugal, and I recently bought some Malbec made in Argentina by WA winemaker Ben Gould.
There is an impressive range of styles and varieties, including some alternative varieties. They are marketed under different brandnames which you won’t find anywhere on a supermarket wine shop shelf. A couple of my favourites are Rabbit and Spaghetti Fiano, A & R Gentil (a blend of Alsatian varieties), Rock It Like A Redhead Tempranillo. There are lots more - all at very reasonable prices.
Naked Wines is looking for more Angels and they have a special offer for new customers. You can get a $100 voucher to get started.
If you’d like to support the innovative edge of Australia winemaking by drinking some delicious wines you can get started now.
