The Grove Vineyard Vintage Report 2005

Steven Hughes of The Grove Vineyard in the Margaret River region has sent this report of the 2005 Vintage of Tempranillo and Graciano. These are the two varieties that make up the classic reds of the Rioja Region in Spain.

1 acre under vine planted in 2000. The vines are mixed in the rows - the traditional way - and cropping held to 2 tonnes to the acre.

Picked by hand on the 22/03/05 with a Beaume of 14.0. Very deep red colours this year (typical of all the reds) foot pressed and fermentation finished off in barrel. Oak used was a fifty fifty blend of French and American with new and two year old wood.

This vintage is to be released as a blend in 2006.

The 2004 will be released in May 2005 at $20.00 a bottle or $216.00 by the case.

Established in 1995, The Grove Vineyard Winery and Liqueur Factory is located in the heart of the Margaret River Wine growing region. The vineyard is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Merlot, Tempranillo, Graciano, Verdelho, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Chardonnay. The property is also planted with 4 acres of Olive trees and produced its first oil in 2004.
