Australian Wine from
Alternative Grape Varieties

Smoked salmon, Horseradish, and Zinfandel

by Darby

At the recent Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show I asked Anne Meakins what she thought might be a good accompaniment to Rusticana's Gold Medal Zinfandel.

"Smoked salmon with horseradish cream" was her response.

Hardly surprising as she and her husband Brian are also owners of Newman's Horseradish.

Now apart from the obvious cross promotional value of Anne's suggestion there is quite a strong culinary logic here. The spiciness and strength of Zin will not be overpowered by the horseradish.

Come to think of it, why not Roast Beef, Yorkshire pudding, horseradish sauce and Zin?
