Hahndorf Hill Winery in the Adelaide Hills

I thought you may be interested to know that here at Hahndorf Hill Winery we have imported three clones of Gruner Veltliner.

Our first (small) production is expected in 2010. We think this grape could have a big future in the Adelaide Hills because of our region's significant diurnal variation.

Growers in Marlborough are also beginning to plant Gruner Veltliner, as this food-friendly grape is well poised to take over as a new "fashionable white" should Sauvignon Blanc start to fade in popularity.

An exciting addition to our varietal treasures
by: Darby

Gruner veltliner is the most popular white wine variety in Austria. It can be used to make rather characterless wines but from the right regions and with care it makes lovely spicy aromatic dry white wines.

I'm sure Hahndorf Hill will do well with this variety. But while we are waiting why not try an Austrian GV with Wiener schnitzel?
