Eldridge Estate of Red Hill Vintage Report 2005

David Lloyd of Eldridge Estate of Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula has sent the following report of the 2005 Vintage. The estate is one of about twenty in Australia growing the Gamay variety, which has a similar ripening time to Pinot Noir.

The Mornington Peninsula has experienced a classic long hang time vintage. The flavour development across the region has been excellent in all varieties.

At Eldridge Estate of Red Hill we produce Gamay. There is only about 20 tonnes of this variety in the whole country and we produce a mere 750kg. However, the flavours from this, our sixth Gamay are outstanding. The flavours are more in the stewed plum end of the gamay flavour profile that extends from cracked pepper to stewed plum. The wine will be released in March 2006.

There will be 3 vintages of Gamay featured at our 10th anniversary dinner on June 11. Further information on the dinner can be obtained via fizz@eldridge-estate.com.au
