Dublin, One day wine tasting course
by Maureen OHara
One day wine tasting course is run by Premier Wine Training.
The principal lecturer is Maureen O'Hara, who has 20 years experience working in the wine trade in Ireland, including 15 teaching wine. Maureen is a WSET Diploma graduate, a WSET Certified Educator, and is a FETAC-certified trainer.
The day starts at 10am, where Maureen will introduce the factors that carve out differences in wine tastes. Then 6 grape varieties are explained. There follows an introduction to professional wine tasting, using the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting. This enables you to describe wines properly and identify flavours you like (and dislike!). 6 varietal wines are tasted before lunch, which is included in the price.
After lunch, Maureen holds a ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ session, so while the day is structured, there is plenty of opportunity to ask questions and get involved, as the classes are intimate.
4 classic wine regions are then explained, with a further 4 wines tasted.
This course is an ideal gift (gift vouchers are nicely presented), and a voucher can be used against any course on any date, and is valid for 18 months.
It is a perfect day out with partner or friend, and gives an amazing amount of knowledge in a friendly environment.
The venue is the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel on Golden Lane, Dublin city centre, which is easily accessed by bus, Luas, DART.
Course costs: €150 including lunch and a set of tasting glasses.
