• A website is successful if it is serving the business interests of the owner. I have seen many sites which are more about showing off the skills of the designer, rather than the owners products.
• Sites can sell products even if they don't have fancy animated graphics and other tricks.
• The most critical factor in the success of your website is getting it found by search engines. Your pages need to have a steady stream of potentail clients.
• You need to be able to have some control over the editing/updating process. For example if you release a new product, win a medal for one of your wines, or change prices you should be able to do minor edits yourself. Unfortunately some people have had to wait weeks, or even months to get critical information updated. Potential clients are not impressed by stale or out of date news in the 'what's new' pages.
