Arrowfield Estate Vintage Report 2005

Barry Kooij from Arrowfield Estate has sent the following report of the 2005 Vintage. Arrowfield is based in the Hunter Valley, but as we see from the report below they are using fruit from alternative varieties in other Australian wine regions.

The 2005 vintage has been outstanding for alternative varieties.

At Arrowfield we have made Verdelho from grapes grown in both the Hunter Valley and Cowra. Intense tropical and canned pineapple characters are evident in both wines with good palette weight and intensity.

We also have Tempranillo grown in Mildura. Whilst the colour is lighter than last year the intensity of varietal fruit characters and palate structure is superior to the 2004 wine.

We have also made a small amount of Sangiovese from fruit grown at an altitude of 900m on the Mayfield vineyard in Orange, NSW. The wine has great colour and expresses fantastic varietal characters of cherries and spice. The palate has a tight savoury structure with good acid balance.

Arrowfield Estate is located in the Hunter Valley Wine Region.
