Finalists for the Victorian Wine Regions Showcase Awards 2008The finalists for the awards for best wine at the showcase over the past 12 months have been announced. The finalists include
Auldstone Cellars, Baarooka, Baddaginnie Run, Bellbrae Estate, Blakes Estate, Boggy Creek, Brown Magpie Wines, Buller Wines, Caledonia Australis, Chanters Ridge, Delatite, Donovan's Vineyard, Downing Estate, Eastern Peake, Five Sons Estate, Galli Estate Winery, Gapsted Wines, Gentle Annie, Grampians Estate, Hanging Rock Winery, Harcourt Valley, Jones Winery and Vineyard, Kellybrook Winery, Kinloch Wines, Limbic Wines, Long Gully Estate, Lost Valley Winery, Lyre Bird Hill Winery, Magyars Hill, Moorooduc Estate, Morris Wines, Nazaaray, Olsen Wines Victoria, Pettavel Winery, Plunkett, Provenance Wines, Rose Creek, Rutherglen Estate, Sandhurst Ridge, Sanguine Estate, Shelmerdine, She-Oak Vineyard, Silverwood, Stuart Wine Co, Train Trak, Turner's Crossing Vineyard, Yileena Park The results of the judging will be announced on Wednesday 6th August 2008. Wines are judged in a range of classes by a panel of experts, and the People's Choice awards are also announced. All finalists will have their wines for tasting at the monthly showcase between 4-30 and 8-30 on Wednesday and Thursday 6 and 7 of August at Federation Square in Melbourne. All finalists will show their range of wines, not just the award finalist wines. This is a quality event and you should attend if you can. You can get a discounted ticket from the Fed Square Website
ResultsIt is very disapointing that there were very few alternative varieties represented in the awards. No alterntive reds were considered, and there was only a small number of alternative varieties. It is difficult to believe that no tempranillos, durifs, sangioveses or barberas worthy of silver or gold point shown during the past year.. Federation Square Wine of the Year
